SAVE OUR BUSES

I am deeply troubled about the proposed Queens bus redesign plan that was issued right before New Year’s Eve. The MTA is proposing to eliminate several bus routes that are critically important to our community. The draft plan would overhaul the entire Queens bus network but will negatively impact most bus commuters in Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, Corona, and Woodside. As someone who does not own a car and relies on MTA’s buses and subways everyday, I understand how problematic this will be to everyone in our community. We must fight back to save our buses and demand an expansion of service and reliability.

The draft plan would result in the elimination of the Q49, Q53, Q33, Q29, and Q32 bus routes. It will stop buses from connecting with the 74th Street/Roosevelt Avenue transit hub where many people transfer to other buses or subway lines, and one of the few accessible stations in our communities.  We can not afford to lose these valuable bus routes that serve us. These routes are vital for seniors, families with young children, people with disabilities, students, and everyday commuters. We can not allow the MTA to shortchange our community.

We deserve someone who will fight for the needs of our community. Someone who recognizes the importance of quality, affordable and accessible  public transportation. Someone who relies on the very system we need to fight for.
