Release: NYCC Endorses Jessica González-Rojas for State Assembly

Key Grassroots Social Justice Group Backs Progressive Activist; 2nd Major Endorsement in Two Days for Insurgent Candidate

Queens, NY (December 18, 2019) — New York Communities for Change (NYCC), a grassroots organizing force, endorsed activist Jessica González-Rojas for New York State Assembly District 34, representing the neighborhoods of Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Woodside. NYCC is backing Jessica González-Rojas, a life-long activist and change-maker, to be a leader in the State Legislature fighting to make CUNY free again, charting a path for a Green New Deal, and mobilizing to make housing a human right in New York. This is the second major endorsement for González-Rojas after Make the Road Action's announcement of support yesterday.

“NYCC is proud to endorse Jessica González-Rojas for State Assembly. Our members were impressed by Jessica’s long history as an advocate for women and immigrant communities and her deep ties to the community,” said Jonathan Westin, Executive Director, NYCC. “We need candidates who are excited to go to Albany and deliver on the priorities for our communities, namely, revenue to fund a Homes Guarantee, a Green New Deal, fully funded schools, and tuition-free college. We believe Jessica is that candidate.”

“I am grateful to receive the NYCC’s powerful endorsement for our campaign. Our campaign is centered on building power for low-income people and people of color and NYCC will be an important partner in mobilizing our community,” said Jessica González-Rojas, Democrat for State Assembly (NY34). “For too long, our immigrant community has been ignored and neglected and I’m running for State Assembly to be a leader for change and an advocate for immigrant justice. I look forward to working closely with NYCC to impact the state policies that affect us all.”
